CHAMPS is an independent, faith based, non-profit mentoring program based in Washington State. CHAMPS was born out of a dialogue between local school leaders, pastors and Christian leaders in Kitsap County. An advisory group of South Kitsap pastors give support and direction to the organization. Our mentors come from various churches within the historical Christian mainstream. CHAMPS and the faith community want to see people, both young and old, become successful in life, develop a positive God centered world view, and be contributing citizens of our community. We believe this is not a journey that we can make on our own. We all need people to come alongside of us to help encourage and guide. That is what CHAMPS is all about. It is about making a journey together, generation to generation. We team a mature Christian adult or couple (from one the churches in our area) together with a young person in the community for the purpose of helping them develop positive values in there life (Developmental Assets) to be successful in this crazy world that we live in. This program isn’t about being an expert teacher; it’s about people who care about youth; sharing their faith, their journey and their time. It’s about being a person who is interested in listening to youth and helping them to find their own way. It is about being a contributing part of our greater community.
Our Mission"CHAMPS mentoring will provide a positive influence in the lives of the children of Kitsap County who may not have the opportunity to have a consistent nurturing relationship with a caring adult.”
